It´s 1.00 on a Friday afternoon. Population wise caceres y badajoz our the largest provinces in Extremadura. Both regions lie south west of Madrid. They are situated 1 hour away from each other with Badajoz touching the Portuguese border while Castile La Manch borders extremadera it to the North. It is also the birthplach of Spainsh explorer Hernan Cortes.
Our first restaurante review is from this region which makes it convenient for us Madrid punters. Myself and Bea, my girlfriend, frequently walk by this tapeo but have never tried it, so we thought today was our day. Bea tells me the cuisine in Extramedura is excellent.
Upon arrival we ordered two bottles of water, our stomachs couldn´t handle vino since we went to indian restaurante the night before(will be reviewed another time). John one of the many waiters working there and judging by his accent could be Argentinian tell us that the most popular order was the canapes.
Banter is shared among the locals canas and canapes are passed above our foreheads. This restaurant isn´t for the light hearted, the waiters pass orders to each other as if going into battle. Before we could have a look at the menu John puts two glasses of Gazpacho(Spicy Tomato soup) in front of us. Yes Sir! Our thrist glads are quinched beyond doubt. Send in the troops old boy.
A refreshing mixed salad and Gazpacho served as a tapa, which is free when you order a drink.
We are ready for more. John obviously saw his looking like he needed more so he gave us a second tapa as a starter comlpletely free.
savory tapa of chicken and potatoes.
Spanish guitars hanging from the walls, Leg strips of ham behind the counter. Bea noticed that my grin was growing due the highly pleasing tapas. The canape arrives. It´s huge. Our toungues drop. A meal fit for at least 3 even though we were only two.
If the starter got a got our taste buds moving the main(tapa) sent us into spiralling into extacy. Yum! I look over my shoulder and I see a women of about 75 years old standing at the bar. She looks pleased. I thought that we aren´t the only pleased customers here.
Out of the two canapes we could only conquered one and a half. John came back again and placed two desert dishes in front of us. Bea glances at them them and then stares at me. My smile is now beaming.
Desert: two chocolate cakes covered in a creamy vanilla sauce
